KC4X4SAR is not just for people with 4x4 trucks! We are a diverse group with diverse needs including:

KC4x4SAR reviews applications twice per year. The key dates for the Winter/Spring admissions window for 2026 will listed below in the coming weeks.

09 Dec 2025 - Last opportunity to attend a general meeting
14 Dec 2025 - All forms and information due
24 Jan 2026 - New Member Orientation
1 - 28 Feb 2026 - New Member Training (combination of at home study and 07 Feb in-person training)
7 - 8 or 21 - 22 Mar 2026 - Graduation event, attend at least one of the weekends

Our application process does take some time to move through the steps. Please allow 20 minutes after you have completed the required modules.

To become a 4×4 member, you must:

Submit a New Member Application
Your application must include the following documents:
- King County SAR Emergency Worker Application
- Proof of completion for ICS/NIMS 100 and 700
- Proof of vehicle insurance
- A passport-style photo of you
- Submission of your state-issued identification or equivalency to validate identity with your application
- First Aid, CPR, and AED Certificates of Completion from a Washington State recognized certified, and credentialed organization and/or provider.
Attend a meet and greet with board members and operations leaders. Please contact the email below for information.
Attend a 4×4 Unit Meeting.
Unit meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at different locations and via Zoom. Please contact the email below for information.
Pass a Background Check
Your application will be processed by King County Sheriff’s Office for a background check.

Be Approved by the Board
The 4×4 Board of Directors will vote on whether or not to accept your application.
Be Approved by the 4×4 General Membership
Your application will be presented to our General Membership for a final vote at a Unit meeting. Please plan on being in attendance for this.
Pay New Member Dues
See below for information on new member dues. Please do not pay until you have been approved by the General Membership.
Attend a New Member Orientation
All new members must attend an orientation before they are eligible to respond to missions. Dates and times for your orientation will be provided after your membership is approved.
